Community-Based Approaches to Building Safety
Feb. 1
Part of a webinar series on community-based strategies to building safer communities, gun violence prevention, and the role of the social and behavioral sciences in understanding and addressing gun violence, this webinar will focus on findings from the recent National Academies report Reducing Racial Inequality in Crime and Justice (2022). Panelists will cover evidence on community-based solutions, noncriminal policy interventions, and criminal justice reforms, and explore and discuss community-driven approaches to reducing harm and improving safety.

Digital Twins in Atmospheric, Climate, and Sustainability Science
Feb. 1 and 2
Digital twins can be used to create global-scale interactive models of Earth and better predict climate and weather conditions, among other applications. At this workshop, experts will discuss development and use of digital twins in atmospheric, climate, and sustainability science.

State of the Art in Smart Manufacturing
Feb. 6
This workshop will bring together representatives from industry, federal agencies, academia, associations and societies, and manufacturing institutes to discuss their missions, highlight known capability gaps, examine current and emerging cutting-edge technologies, and review road maps for smart manufacturing.

Assessment of the Impact of Social Media on the Health and Well-being of Adolescents and Children
Feb. 6, 7, and 10
To inform an ongoing consensus study, speakers will discuss advertising, transparency, online privacy, data security, platform accountability, and content moderation in regard to children and adolescents on social media.

Opportunities and Challenges for Digital Twins in Engineering
Feb. 7 and 9
Using examples from oil and gas engineering, airframe sustainment, manufacturing, and more, workshop speakers will discuss the definition of a digital twin and identify promising practices and key technical challenges for their development and use. The workshop will focus on issues related to uncertainty quantification, data assimilation, and data visualization, as well as opportunities for translation of promising practices to and from other fields.

Transportation Career Series
Feb. 8 and 22
This webinar series will highlight the critical roles of the transportation workforce in community building and achieving equity-centered and sustainable outcomes. Two February webinars will focus on emerging workforce needs and trends and sustainable mobility.

How Computation Is Accelerating Structure-Based Drug Design
Feb. 9
Karen Akinsanya, president of research and development at Schrödinger Inc., will provide an overview of the drug discovery process with the integration of experimental and computational methods and highlight the latest advances in science of drug development.

Future Directions for Southern Ocean and Antarctic Nearshore and Coastal Research
Feb. 9 and 10
This community workshop will provide NSF’s Office of Polar Programs with community perspectives that can be used to inform the design of a proposed Antarctic Research Vessel and the portfolio of technologies that expand capability beyond ship-based assets.

Advancing Anti-racism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in STEMM Organizations
This consensus report reviews research and evidence in which racism and bias conditions create systemic barriers and impede STEMM careers for historically marginalized racial/ethnic groups, identifies principles for sustainable organizational culture change, identifies effective strategies to advance anti-racism in STEMM organizations, and defines a research agenda to address gaps to advance anti-racism.

Review of ICCOPR’s 2022-2027 Oil Pollution Research and Technology Plan
This report will provide advice and guidance to the Interagency Coordinating Committee on Oil Pollution Research on its 2022-2027 Research and Technology Plan.

Technical Assessment of the Capital Facility Needs of the National Institute of Standards and Technology
This report reviews the state of the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s facilities, the impacts on its mission, and makes recommendations to inform capital facility planning and operational sustainability.

Transforming Health Care to Create Whole Health: Strategies to Assess, Scale, and Spread the Whole Person Approach to Health
Whole health is a person-centered, integrated approach to health care that focuses on health creation and well-being by incorporating patients’ goals into their health care. This report examines the whole health approach and recommends future directions and priorities for scaling a whole health system of care at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and in other health care settings.
